There are eligibility requirements which must be met in order to participate in this program. We encourage interested participants to come by the nutrition center to fill out an application to become a registered participant. Some of the funding sources which provide funding to the nutrition program may require that an application be submitted to them directly. This information will be provided to you once you contact the nutrition center.
The Community Services Agency understands that the elderly of our area have other needs which must be met in order that they may have meaningful and healthy lifestyles. It is for this reason that the CSA Elderly Nutrition Center under takes certain Special Projects to assist participants with other needs.
The CSA Elderly Nutrition Center invites Health Care Agencies to come and set up a booth and do presentations to the elderly participants on issues such as well being, medical information, diets or issues that are affecting the elderly community.
The Community Services Agency for the past 15 years has been the host of the annual Senior Fun Day held at Veterans Park in Carrizo Springs. This event brings together the elderly nutrition center participants from the 9 county area Region 8. The goal of this event is to bring all of these participants together to celebrate the joy of being a Senior Citizen and to socialize and interact with all of our neighbors throughout the region. Several contests are held during the day including a dance contest which adds to the excitement of this event. Health care providers and other vendors who prioritize services to the elderly are present to provide information on their services. Free screenings are also provided. We have not yet set a date for this event for 2025 as everything is in the planning stages, but it usually takes place in the Spring. Vendors and Health Care providers who would like to place a booth at this event should contact Robert Diaz @ 830-876-2440 for more information.
The CSA Elderly Nutrition Center holds an annual Thanksgiving Day Luncheon for the participants and all governmental agencies, local health agencies, oil companies who also contribute to the program. We take this opportunity to give Thanks for all the blessings which have been given to us. May the spirit of Thanksgiving be with everyone.
The CSA Elderly Nutrition Center for the past 25 Years has been involved in providing Christmas Food boxes to Low Income Families and elderly persons. These Christmas food boxes are made possible by donations from some of our local vendors, the business community and local governments. Every year a total of 125 boxes are distributed a week before Christmas Day in the Dimmit County Area for persons in Big Wells, Asherton, Carrizo Hill, Carrizo Springs and Catarina Texas. Our intent was to assure that the spirit of Christmas was present in the homes of those needy families. We are currently taking monetary donations and donations of nonperishable food items so that our Christmas food drive may match or exceed our annual goal. Please call us if you would like to donate for this project.
